Friends are the Family...

that you pick yourself. Isn't that a sweet sentiment? Well, it is the basis for today's card. I am back in a "no hoarding, just use it up" phase and I found some things that I had forgotten about... an older Doodlebug photopolymer stamp set and a DSP pack from several Stampin Up catalogs back. I used this week's Mojo Monday sketch and this week, I even checked to make sure I was using the current sketch. Yay, me! Here is my card...

Cute, huh? I thought so anyway. I tend to gravitate towards bright, fresh colors when I stamp floral images but the bolder colors of my papers, from the Darling Doodles DSP series, were appealing to me for this card. I have always loved these papers but I ended up "saving" them and if I don't use them soon, I just know they will seem to dated to me and it will go unused. The stamp set I used is called Doodlebug Friends. It was one of Doodlebug's first clear cling sets. I love all of their stuff. Their images and papers just jive with my style of scrapping and since my kids are still young (and the photos I am scrapping are of them even younger LOL), they really work for me.

Ohmmmm, ohmmmm...

See that title? That is me meditating. Today's card threw me into fits of calm and before I knew it, the "ohms" were coming out of my mouth. LOL! That's a bit of an exaggeration but I couldn't help myself. I used a stamp from the MFT bubble bin last week... Annie LaPointe's bath tub series which are always fun for me. In My Mind's Eye, they come together nicely with delicate florals and soothing geometric prints. So check it out!

I LOVE the new Pretty Please collection from My Mind's Eye. They all look good together! I will be pulling these papers out again really soon. It was nice to pull out something new over the weekend and make a card. As I have mentioned, summertime is cutting into my scramping time. I love having my kids home but I really miss my alone time every day. I generally stamp for "work" to stock my Etsy shop just as much as I stamp for fun and when you are lucky enough to do something you love every day, it is pretty hard to "go without." Oh, woe is me! Hahaha!

So about the card...the sketch came from an SCS sketch on 5-20-09. I saw it used by Dawn Easton on her blog and I filed the idea away for a rainy day since I loved her interpretation of the sketch so much. I love how the arrangement showcases the coordinates so well. I figure I will market this as a friendly notecard or even as a "get well soon" sorta card. The bathtub image brings about that whole "spa day, pamper yourself" feeling so I bet it would work well for that.

You Are My Sunshine

Well, since I made a card for my son, I started thinking about what my daughter might like. She is 10, almost 11, and wayyyyy into bright colors. My Spring Sprouts set from My Favorite Things came yesterday and as I was playing with it, I realized it was a perfect set to make my darling girl a card just like her brother's earlier in the week. I get so busy working on my stuff and making items to sell in my Etsy shop, I sometimes forget that the most important people in my life, my family, don't often get to reap the benefits of mom sitting at her desk until all hours. So, being home with them all week, has made me remember that they need a little handmade love too. These cards will probably go in lunch boxes next week when they go back to school. On with my card though! I used another "old" paper. I decided it was perfect for a child's card using bright colors. I stamped my image on watercolor paper and then colored it in with Prismacolor pencils (watercolor) and my aqua pen. It has been a long time since I used anything but my Copics to color. I forgot how fun pencils and water are! Here is my card...

New Toys!

Hello! I have tons of new stuff to show you. I got several new things to play with and I used a few on today's card. For the rest, I will try to use them soon so I can show them to you. New stamps, new papers, and even some tools and ink thrown in for good measure. Today's card uses a stamp set that is available as of today from Stampin Up. It is Wagon Full of Fun and it is available in the Occasions Mini catalog from April 1st until June 30th so don't miss out. Contact your SU demonstrator to order. If you don't have a demonstrator of your own, I would be glad to tell you how to find one.

So, about the card... I used some paper that would not typically be among my stash. I saw it in my LSS last week and decided it was fresh and funky and I needed it. I didn't like the coordinates in the collection so I brought it home as an orphan. Since I had such a good time trying new combos last week, I looked through my paper drawers for something that I would not normally put with my new find and Voy-Ola (:D), I found a match! Let me show the end result before I go any further.
The edges of my sentiment and stamped image are inked with distress ink after chalking the whole surface with ivory blending chalk (to make it match the printed paper background better.) I printed the message on my computer although the stamp set has some really cute sentiments included. I colored the flower with my Copics and one SU marker. I used my new Nestabilities Labels #1 template to cut the image panel and border.
